Nearly a year after Missouri’s first medical marijuana dispensaries began operating and several months after Branson got a dispensary, a cannabis retail store is now open in the nearby Table Rock Lake area.
Thrive Branson West is one of two operations awarded permits to operate in the Stone County town of 484 residents, according to state health department records provided to the News-leader earlier this year.
The company said it held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning at its store located at 18490 Business Highway 13, a 15-minute drive from other lakeside communities such as Kimberling City and Indian Point.
Thrive plans two retail outlets in Missouri, said MoCannTrade, the industry’s largest association in the Show-Me State. The company already has four dispensaries in southern Illinois.
Missouri dispensary sales totaled $21.7 million in August and $21 million in July, up from $16.3 million in June, state records show.
Missouri now counts roughly 139,000 patients with state-issued ID cards allowing them to buy marijuana at licensed dispensaries for medicinal treatment.
Stone County, where Thrive’s new dispensary is located, had between 500 and 999 patients at the end of August, state records show.
