P&Z to consider moratorium on cannabis establishments

BEACON FALLS — The Planning and Zoning Commission scheduled a hearing for Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall to discuss putting a moratorium on cannabis retail establishments in place.

Recreational marijuana is now legal in the state. Individuals 21 and older can legally possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana with an additional 5 ounces secured in their home or vehicle. Retail sale of recreational cannabis in Connecticut is not expected to begin until May 2022, at the earliest.

Commission Chairman Don Molleur said officials want to study the issue to make the right decision on how to proceed with cannabis establishments.
